What Is Original Content
Original Content for the internet is something created by you and only associated with your name. This can be photography, art, written words, and many other things – as long as you are the original content creator.
What Original content is NOT is something you have found on a Google Image search, something you thought was pretty and downloaded it, then uploaded it to social media. If you have ever done this you have violated copyright laws, and have violated Tsu TOS.
This is no different that walking into a store, seeing something you like and want to show your friends, and walking out without paying for it. You would expect to be arrested for stealing property that was not your own. It is no different than stealing photos or articles. You are taking from a photographer or artist or writer and making Tsu rewards from their work when you add the content to Tsu. There are no two way around it; this is illegal.
Recently the Director of Tsu Community Support clarified what was allowed on Tsu and what was not. Images from Pixabay, for instance, are allowed, as they are free for personal and commercial use, with no attribution required; this is a CC0 Public Domain image. That means you can post them. But don’t expect to win friends or followers for posting content that is not your own. And even with these free Pixabay images, you CANNOT call them original content. That would be a false and misleading statement and you would risk action by the original photographer. “No Attribution” means you do not have to list the photographer, but you also cannot pretend to be the photographer. Despite these images being “okay” with Tsu, I still suggest linking to them instead of downloading and uploading. It is always best to be honest about what you are posting.
Other things you can post on Tsu are news articles by posting the link to said article. You cannot copy and paste it and call it your own – that is called plagiarism. Plagiarism is defined as “the practice of taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as one’s own.” Synonyms of Plagiarism are: copying, infringement of copyright, piracy, theft, stealing. None of those are good words! In posting article links, you are generally allowed to post the title and a lead-in line from the article. You cannot post the entire article without the author/company’s written permission. Posting the link will show the first lines as well as photography (if available) and will act as the link to the article.
You can post Youtube video’s. Again, do not try to pass it off as your own. The nice thing about Youtube videos is that they player is embedded and you can listen/view right from Tsu.
If you are linking to articles, photos and video, you are doing it right. If you are uploading and passing them off as your own, you are doing it wrong and will not get paid on Tsu.
Tsu checks each and every post when you go to cash out your bank. Even if you have donated to charities, that will be taken back as well. Theft NEVER pays. For anyone involved, even indirectly.
How To Create Tsu Original Content Guide
So, if you are not a photographer or artist or writer, how can you create original content? Original content is really very easy, and you don’t have to be a professional at anything. You have amazing tools right in front of you on Tsu. Both the Android and iPhone Tsu Apps have the built-in GIF Maker. Anything is “gif-able”. For an example of simple, yet creative and quality gifs take a look at @ChristineDeGraff’s page. Her dog Bandit has become quite popular on Tsu due to Christine’s gifs.
If you have a pet you can create endless entertaining gifs. If you don’t have a pet, make gifs from flowers blowing in the wind, or use the “stop-motion” to put a bunch of different pictures together to make one rotating gif. The possibilities are truly endless.
You don’t have to be a photographer to take good pictures. And you can take pictures of anything; things around your house, sunsets, flowers, etc. Tsu has a great photo editor right at your fingertips. Once you upload your photo you will see an “Edit” option on the thumbnail preview. Click that and experiment with the different effects, filters, stickers, text options and colors. Add a frame, add your name, add a quote, and there you go!
Why is original content so important?
Because it let’s us get to know you! We see the things that you enjoy, we see your surrounding, and we all enjoy a more personal experience. Once you start posting only original content you will see a definite change in your analytics.
Many people search the original content hashtag because that is what they want to see. And just as many people are removing those who post Googled images from their friends lists because they do not want to see it in their news feeds. Ultimately, the choice is yours, but I hope once you see how easily you can create original content, you will do so. It will make the difference between making new friends or losing the friends you do have.
As always, if you have any questions, or if I can further help you, don’t hesitate to contact me on Tsu at @DonnaStewart .
Good luck, and I look forward to seeing your original content!
